end2end ITS Service Prototype

An ITS service is constructed on the basis of Finnish Road Enterprise, Indagon Ltd and Nokia products. The service provides end users with transport services that can be accessed through a variety of terminals.

The services are based on background systems operated by the Finnish Road Enterprise's "Traveler Service Centre" (e.g. Liikkujat.com) and on Indagon telematic terminals, most of which are available on the market.

Technological challenges

The utilization of voice synthesis and voice recognition to transfer data between a system and its users; cutting down on the driver's cognitive load
The automatic utilization of travelers' verbal feedback in road weather, traffic incident and transport information services
The IP-based (SUPL, secure user plane) relaying of location data from terminals to service providers in real time, independent of technology.

The objective is to create a prototype of a service package that allows consumers to send and received transport and road weather information in their vehicles while traveling by using either a separately purchased telematic terminal or a commonly-used mobile phone (Nokia Series60). There is also an automatic emergency call service for accident situations. The product has interfaces with both public and private databases.
